Outreach project digital technology – overview

This page documents the construction, form and use of the digital technology supporting volunteer community landscape groups.

The project is based on the WordPress platform which is established, mature and fully customisable and flexible. WordPress’ customisation is possible largely due to the extensive range of standalone plugins developed for the system that can be configured and combined in a variety of ways. The plugins used in this project are:

  • Akismet Anti-Spam: widely use plugin to protect blogs from spam. No cost.
  • Jetpack: takes care of lots of functionality under the hood and automatic configuration. No cost. Technical details are at https://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack/
  • MapsMarker Pro: provides all the funky mapping functionality. We need the Pro version functionality and so there is a cost associated with this plugin, but we definitely think it’s worth it. https://www.mapsmarker.com/
  • Rich-Web Tabs: provides advanced tab functionality to help us manage the large amounts of tabbed content. No cost. https://wordpress.org/plugins/tabbed/
    • Astley Forge Mill
