802.1x
802.1x is an authentication protocol used as part of eduroam and the forthcoming Lapwing service expansion
AP
A single wireless access point. A small device connected to the network infrastructure with a single cable allowing other's with wireless capable devices (generall laptops or some phones and PDAs) to connect to the internet.
APs
Wireless access points In the case of Lapwing / Eduroam these will be ARUBA or the older CISCO access points.

DITMG
Departmental IT Manager's Group A forum where Departmental IT managers meet and organise events and collaborative developments, systems and skill sharing. Also see CITMG
EAPs
Extended Authentication Protocol. See WikiPedia
Eduroam
Educational Roaming - the global wireless authentication system used by JANET and provided via the UCS
GBN
Granta Backbone Network: The physical infrastructure (fibre, copper, ducts etc) used by the CUDN.
HARP

ISO27001
ISO 27001 is a security standard that has been ratified Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_27001 for an outline of the specification or http://www.27001-online.com/ and http://www.iso.org/iso/home.htm for the ISO homepage
ISP
Internet Service Provider: A company that provides you with internet access, eg BT, Virgin, Pipex etc
JISC
Joint Information Systems Committee
Lapwing
The University of Cambridge wireless service. Since the service start in June 2006 there has been over 750,000 distinct users.
Laser ablation
Laser ablation or photoablation is the process of removing material from a solid (or occasionally liquid) surface by irradiating it with a laser beam <a href=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_ablation">wikipedia</a>
LiDAR
Light Detection And Ranging "LiDAR is a remote sensing technology which uses the pulse from a laser to collect measurements which can then be used to create 3D models and maps of objects and environments" (Copyright ? 1999 - 2018 3D Laser Mapping) Using lasers mounted on an aerial vehicle, a LiDAR unit uses the light reflected from the ground to map the surface. When the laser (mounted at around 40 degrees) reflects the light and the aerial unit returns the other way, the two images are used to cancel out the differences so you are just left with the surface - hence vegetation can be largely eliminated from an image.
MSI
Mass Spectrometer analysis <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_spectrometry">Wikipedia</a>
NWAG
Northern Worcestershire Archaeological Group A group of amateur archaeological sleuths that can be found at http://www.northwag.org/

ODAO
Offa's Dyke Association Outreach - see ODA
ODC
Offa's Dyke Collaboratory
PCA
Prime Compound Analysis - in chemical analysis, the "prime compound analysis" is the method by which detailed analysis (MSI, LSI, etc.) of compounds identifies a 'fingerprint' compound e.g. lipids and molecules associated with hops
Shibboleth
A form of authentication requiring a separate username and password to most other system. Please see http://shibboleth.internet2.edu/ - the Shibboleth home page
SWAG
